HIGH SPEED GRAPHICS ACCELERATION
OpenGL Graphics - FEMAP Render Mode

All FEMAP v5.0 configurations include support for OpenGL graphics via FEMAP's Render Mode. Previous versions of FEMAP displayed all graphics using Windows vector drawing functionality, v5.0 adds Render Mode as a viewing option. In render mode, graphics are displayed via the OpenGL graphics engine supported by Windows 95 and Windows NT.

Having both graphics modes is beneficial:
Standard Windows graphics in FEMAP are vector images, and when copied to the clipboard and pasted into other applications, remain vector images. Vector images can be resized without a loss in image quality. When printed, vector images are effectively redrawn to the printer, and realize the maximum resolution available. For high quality printed and imported images, the standard FEMAP graphics mode is still the best choice.

Render Mode Graphics (OpenGL-based) offers increased speed and additional viewing options not possible with the standard Windows graphics. In Render Mode FEMAP v5.0 can dynamically rotate fully shaded solid geometry and FEA models, including color stress contours, iso-surfaces, cutting planes, dynamic iso-surfaces, and dynamic cutting planes.

Do you need an OpenGL board to use Render Mode?
No. Microsoft has implemented OpenGL in software when hardware acceleration is not available. In software only, Render Mode plots are significantly faster than standard FEMAP graphics and color stress plots can be rotated dynamically. With hardware acceleration (high-end OpenGL) boards FEMAP graphics behave just like any high end engineering workstation, including real-time smooth rotation of solid and FEA models.
