GEOMETRY-BASED LOADS and BOUNDARY CONDITIONS

FEMAP supports Geometry-Based loads and Boundary Conditions. The implementation includes both pure geometric based loads and boundary conditions, and the ability to apply FE based loads and constraints using the geometric entities from which they were derived.

Consider the following simple geometric model (no mesh), loaded at one end, and constrained at the circular hole:

The part can be meshed, and during translation to any of the supported FEA programs, the geometric based loads and boundary conditions are converted to real nodal and elemental loads and boundary conditions:

In this case, the loads are properly distributed and weighted for an uneven mesh distribution, and the midside nodes receive a higher percentage of load to properly reflect the formulation of the higher order elements used in this mesh. Load "expansion" can be accomplished from within FEMAP to review the actual nodal and elemental details prior to translation for analysis, and optionally "compressed" back to a pure geometric basis.
