DUAL ENGINE GEMOTRY MODELING™
With the FEMAP Professional Bundle, Dual Engine
Geometry ModelingÔ makes
it possible to work with either the ACIS Geometry Engine and/or the Parasolid
Geometry Engine. FEMAP can create solid models with both engines in the same
FEMAP model. Since the underlying engines themselves are not directly compatible,
you cannot make the two geometric solids interact, but you can mesh solids
from either engine and connect them with FEA entities.
Why both engines?
With the growing acceptance of mid-range solid modeling packages using both
ACIS and Parasolids, engineers are often presented with solid models from
either of these packages, sometimes from suppliers who might be using a different
CAD package, and sometimes from different sources from within the same company.
FEMAP uses the Parasolid Geometry Engine as the underlying geometry evaluation
and processing tool when importing, stitching, and working with trimmed and
untrimmed B-Spline surfaces. Therefore, even if your preferred mode of solid
modeling was ACIS, Parasolid would still be required to import IGES trimmed
surfaces, or use the advanced surface modeling capability of FEMAP - Professional.
